Wake Up And Smell The Ego

You already know what to do, so why aren’t you doing it?  Why are you so stuck?

I say it’s because you’re asleep.  You’ve fallen asleep and let your primal, negative ego mind take over your consciousness.  In days gone by your primal negative ego mind had two thoughts: “What am I going to eat?” and, “What wild beast is going to eat me?”

One client likened the negative ego mind to the appendix.  They believed the appendix was an organ left over from a time our ancestors had to digest leaves and raw meat.  So, on the plus side, the negative ego is an organ that stopped us from becoming raw meat.  It’s a left over safety mechanism that protects us when there’s a threat of being hurt.

Today, the financial advisor’s negative ego mind is thinking, “How am I going to make my payments?” or, “I should have listened to my mother and stayed in a regular job with benefits.”  Zig Ziegler and Stuart Smalley (the Al Franken character from Saturday Night Live) both called this “stinkin’ thinkin’.”
