Have your say and click Advisor.ca’s  ‘Name That Visionary Poll’ to cast your vote!

Please note that given Advisor.ca is a publication for financial and investment advisors, I humbly submit that I do not profess to be a Financial or Investment Visionary as far as financial products and services.

If one were to see me as a Visionary it may be because of doing my best to walk my talk as a Financial  & Investment Advisor Coach, Speaker & Writer that uses systems like a Marketing Funnel in their own practice.

Please read on about the Marketing Funnel and how I used the Marketing Funnel and the following blogs to make the Final Round of Advisor.ca’s  ‘Name That Visionary Poll’.

  • April 13, 2010 – ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top 10 leaders in the industry today?
  • August 6, 2010 – The Law Of Shameless Self Promotional Attraction
  • September 28, 2010 – Social Media At Work, At Work, At Work
  • ( and along the way I posted blogs like ) October 14, 2010 – Is Social Media Flawed Or Useful?

The 34 Step Marketing Funnel – Revisited September 2009

With the DNC List Legislation (Do Not Call List ), we all have to think of more creative ways to eliminate cold calls while working with niche marketing at the same time.

Yes this list looks intimidating. It looked that way to me five years ago. There is an expression that; “If they can’t find you on Google, you don’t exist”.

To get your name to the top page on Google, all you have to is point number 13 on the following list and have the articles publish in the publications that your niche is reading.

1.Choose A Niche

2.Find A Problem That Needs Solving

3.Create A Solution Through Your Products & Services

4.Brand Your Solution

5.Create An Introductory Letter & Product Sales Pages

6.Under Promise & Over Deliver To Your Clients

7.Ask For Referrals

8.Receive And Publish Client Testimonials

9.Create A Referral Card

10.Create A Web Site

11.Publish An E-Newsletter

12.Publish A Blog

13.Write Articles

14.Create Press Releases

15.Master Viral Marketing

16.Create A Speaking Folio

17.Create A Show Reel

18.Create CDs & DVDs

19.Create Blogs

20.Speak To 50,000 People Within The Niche At Association And Corporate Events

21.Receive And Publish Speaking Testimonials

22.Prospect Speaking Opportunities

23.Get Published By A National Publication Within The Niche

April 13, 2010 – ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top 10 leaders in the industry today?

Submit your nominations and you could win an iPhone.

Enter the poll here.

There are two ways of playing this:

1.Pretending to be a shy and demure Canadian, because that is what Canadians do, in the hope that people will vote anyway – “I don’t take part in these celebrity competitions because its beneath me”

2.Bold, outrageous and provocative – “asking for the business” – vote for me because I love the exposure!

I’d like to announce my candidature in ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top 10 leaders in the industry today?

August 6, 2010 – The Law Of Shameless Self Promotional Attraction

Way back in April I posted this article in my newsletter to shamelessly promote myself as a candidate and thanks to you, I have been nominated as one of the finalists in Advisor.ca’s ‘Name That Visionary Poll’.

Your vote automatically entered you to win a new 32GB iPhone 3G S.

I not only received the nomination as one the finalists through shameless self promotion, I shamelessly voted for myself (once) and won the 32GB iPhone 3G S!

If you don’t promote yourself, who will? Vote here.

September 28, 2010 – Social Media At Work, At Work, At Work

My current thinking is the Visionary Poll can also demonstrate the power and the use of grass roots social media as one would expect it would be no contest for Canada’s Minister Of Finance or the Governor of The Bank Of Canada to be the winners just picking two of the examples … and hats off to them with Canada being rated as having one of the best financial systems in the world.

As an experiment, I am thinking of using Out Of The Box Social Media Marketing and here is an example.

We sent out the Advisor.ca ‘Name That Visionary Poll’ E-Mail to my E-Newsletter readers on Friday which was automatically posted to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. I’m very thankful for the response from clients that go back into the 90’s. One reader, not a client, someone that I don’t believe that I’ve talked to personally replied; It’s my pleasure Simon, you’ve helped my career, and good luck!

I’m friends with Bart Wisniowski and Loic Jeanjean with AdvisorWebsites and they work exclusively with Financial Advisors and Investment Advisors.

I received this LinkedIn Network Update from Loic; “vote casted!”

This got me thinking and I e-mailed Loic with;

■To: Loic Jeanjean

■Subject: Thanks for the vote! Have a great week!

Hi Loic,

This is a long shot request.

Would it be too much to ask to request that you re-post this in your blog? https://leadingadvisor.com/name-that-visionary/

What is in for you?

You could write a brief introduction that this is a demonstration of the power of social networking and that clients are voting with their fingers and that anyone can create visibility with some effort and that I got nominated because of this.

Best regards,

Simon

Here is Loic’s Reply;

Hi Simon,

Not a problem. Glad I can help.

By the way, one of our guy’s is going to contact you in the next few days and ask you if you want to answer a few questions about marketing/sales ideas for financial advisors.

We are putting a little book together with all our blog posts and are looking for industry leaders in Canada and the USA to share tips with our future readers.

Kind Regards,

Loic Jeanjean

Then I sent this reply;

■To: ‘Loic Jeanjean’

■Subject: RE: Thanks for the vote! Have a great week!

Thanks Loic – I have some very good articles on this to share. Happy to help. Simon

Then my thinking took it to the next level thinking that I would write a draft Blog that Loic could “cut and paste / edit to his liking” to send to the readers of AdvisorWebsites’s Blog;

Draft Blog – Advisor.ca’s ‘Name That Visionary Poll’

Simon Reilly of Leading Advisor asked me to post this Blog and to ask you for your vote in Advisor.ca’s ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top Ten leaders in the industry today?

Simon is a financial and investment advisor coach, speaker and writer and has used is hard work and social media to qualify in the top 20 candidates in Advisor.ca’s ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top Ten leaders in the industry today?

( and along the way I posted blogs like ) October 14, 2010 – Is Social Media Flawed Or Useful?

I’m reflecting after an October 12 conversation with my business coach and friend Chris Barrow.

We talked about strategies to stay as productive as possible on my upcoming financial advisor speaking two week road trip, that the client does the work in respect to sending the coaching the follow up minutes to the coaching meeting and not the other way round ( I suppose this is what I am doing now by writing this blog ), support team fees, hiring a social media manager and we ended with; Is Social Media Flawed Or Useful?

There are now four significant social media applications that include; FaceBook, Four Square, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Chris has hired a social media manager and has developed a strong Dental Business following on FaceBook.

The compliance department jury in my financial and investment advisor coaching world are still out.

Financial advisors and investment advisors may not be flocking to FaceBook because of the compliance issue and some companies are blocking FaceBook access on their computers so the social networking choice for financial advisors and investment advisors is LinkedIn.

So Chris is making history on FaceBook and I’ll dive deeper into LinkedIn with a social media manager in the near future.

When it came to our discussion about Four Square and Twitter, we both agreed that we were not 100% on these two.

While we both link our blogs to ; FaceBook, LinkedIn and Twitter, neither of us are really Twittering all that much and not using its potential.

When it comes to Four Square, I joked that I am Mayor or Rathtrevor Park in Parksville and I should be able to get my “Far Away” and “Jet Setter” badges from the two week road trip.

What are the real benefits of social media; Is Social Media Flawed Or Useful?

Here are Chris’ thoughts;

Social media is a stream of consciousness and 80% might be flawed and 20% is leading edge and useful and through this one can develop a reputation as a thought leader – thinking out loud.

Most people don’t think out loud at all and people are either in one of these three groups;

1.They don’t think

2.They think to themselves

3.They think out loud and become thought leaders

Those that think out loud become thought leaders because it is the only thinking that is available.

Thought leaders benefit the herd because it makes them stop and think.

Chris and I wrapped up our call talking about our favourite show Mad Men and the brilliant thinking of Don Draper played by Jon Hamm.

Chris said; “Don Draper is flawed … Flawed enough to be useful as he has been challenged his whole life and that has caused him to think outside the box, see things differently, think out loud, put his ideas on paper and make a significant difference bringing his creative ideas to light.”

Dear All,

I’ve been shortlisted for Advisor.ca’s ‘Name That Visionary Poll’: Who are the Top 10 leaders in the industry today?

Round One is over and the candidates have been narrowed down to 20 entries.

The next step is to vote for the top ten entries and you can do this by clicking here;

http://www.advisor.ca/news/industry-news/finals-name-that-visionary-poll-2-12568

There are two ways I could have played this:

1.Pretending to be a shy and demure Canadian, because that is what Canadians do, in the hope that people will vote anyway – ”I don’t take part in these celebrity competitions because it’s beneath me”

2.Bold, outrageous and provocative – ”asking for the business” – vote for me because I love the exposure!

Another reason that I am doing this is to demonstrate the power of E-Nurture Marketing as you are a reader of my E-Newsletter and we were initially introduced through speaking or via the internet.

Honestly, it would cost tens of thousands to receive the exposure that this poll can create.

So I’m asking for your help.

The next step is to vote for the top ten entries and you can do this by clicking here and PLEASE VOTE FOR ME;

http://www.advisor.ca/news/industry-news/finals-name-that-visionary-poll-2-12568

Again, why am I asking?

■The exposure is absolutely great for my professional career development

■The publicity is a vindication for all the hard work done with clients and the philosophy and ideas that we share in these and other pages

■The encouragement to me to keep fighting the fight for quality career and independent financial advisors

■My coaches and mentors all get to take a break as my unmet need of recognition is satisfied
