Perfection Is When There Is Nothing Left To Take Away

made%20to%20stick.jpg

It’s 8:35am PST on Thursday, October 11th.

I have 80 – 8 ½” x 11″ pages indexed to the type set audio of my Power Point and if you multiply 71 x 2 that equals 160 “rough book pages” as the book pages are half the size of a regular sheet of paper.

Note that I have added “rough book pages” because I have no clue where this is all going to end up.

I have indexed 75 out of 210 articles so we will see.

This looks like I am 35% of the way through it.

I’m reading Made To Stick by Chip & Dan Heath and a relevant quotation caust my eye;

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery, French Aviator & Author

So having shared this, I’m reminded that I am the “creating a stack” stage according to Rick Mercer of The Rick Mercer Report seen on the CBC.

My job is to create a stack and perfection will be created by the editor.

It’s 9:53am and I have 100 – 8 ½” x 11″ pages indexed and covered 84 out of 210 articles which is 40% of the way through the articles. I’ve been at it since 6am and it is requiring much discipline to stick with this as I would rather go into my natural behavioral style of multi tasking. I recall a comment from Teresia LaRocque; “what you practice in private, you will be rewarded in public”. Teresia and I worked together in 1990 in the days of the Anthony Robbins Franchise.

It’s 11:15am and I have – 143 – 8 ½” x 11″ pages indexed and covered 108 out of 210 articles which is over 50% of the way through the articles.

I’m just taking a break after completing a section of the articles on Unmet Needs.

What to do? Take on anther section before lunch or …

For a break I’m going to put down some thoughts about the editor that we want to attract.

The editor we wish to attract will;

1. Be Decisive, Logical, Consistent & Systematic.
2. Be willing to complete a Values & Behaviors Assessment
3. Have knowledge of the Coaching Industry, Personal & Professional Development
4. Have completed on or be in the process of completing Their Personal Development Work – No Baggage
5. Demonstrate points 3 & 4 by way of conversation and the books that they have read
6. Have a minimum of 10 years of experience

I am going to run this by Laura to get some of Laura’s thoughts on this. We have written enough Ads for Financial Advisor Assistants and Marketing Assistants that this should be easy.

2:10pm and I have – 158 – 8 ½” x 11″ pages indexed and covered 108 out of 210 articles which is over 50% of the way through the articles.

You may notice that I have not made any progress on the 108 out of 210 articles covered.

After my lunch break I stopped to get myself reorganized and I doubled back as I had to leave a few articles behind over the course of yesterday and today and I am now caught up.

I’m taking time now to re-indexing the final list of articles to fine tune and stay focused and set the stage for Friday.

I’ve been working since 6am with an hour for lunch so by the time I stop at 3:30pm that will make it an 8 ½ hour day devoted to writing.

I’m going to go for a 1 cycle at 3:30pm and I have a haircut at 5:30pm so that will be it for the rest of the day.

At the end of all of this I must remember that;

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery, French Aviator & Author
