OCUTPD – Obsessive Compulsive Understanding The Past Disorder :-)

In speaking with a client yesterday –

My recommendation to my client is to create a Big Vision and concentrate on the daily actions and how these feel as a result of taking action while focusing on the Big Vision. This will cause one to stay focused on the present and the future versus the past and past results.

My client asked; How can I do this when I do not have a Big Vision at this time?

I asked my client to identify their Values that are important to them;

Presence
Attractiveness
Uniqueness
Ability

My recommendation to my client, even though they do not currently have a Big Vision is to do the following daily journal at the end of every day -.

Even though I do not have a Big Vision at this time –

How did I observe myself experiencing Presence, Attractiveness, Uniqueness & Ability today?

How did I observe myself adding value to others while experiencing Presence, Attractiveness, Uniqueness & Ability today?

How does that make me feel?

The reason that I made this suggestion is –

As Dr. Harville Hendrix points out in his book “Getting The Love You Want”, as children, we observe “how to be in a relationship” by the actions of our parents. So as children, if we observe our parents fighting and then they make up, our childhood mind then assumes that in order to create love, we first have to start a fight and if this is observed over a long period of time then a pattern is created.

This can apply to how the childhood mind formed patterns around success.

If the child is around a parent that is unhappy on a consistent basis with the parent asking either verbally or within their subconscious mind; Why is this happening to me? Why am I not happy? – Then the childhood mind creates a pattern for the future … Without the adult mind even being aware, can be stuck in a pattern of spending time on; Why is this happening to me? Why am I not happy?

I am a firm believer in taking the time to understand our origin – and at the same time –

My point here is; When you ask “Why” based questions then you will always get the answer and it will likely be negative.

🙂 In away, if one is not careful they could wind up with OCUTPD – Obsessive Compulsive Understanding The Past Disorder.

It is time to start living in the present to build a new future –

So again, rather than asking “Why” questions –

How did I observe myself experiencing Presence, Attractiveness, Uniqueness & Ability today?

How did I observe myself adding value to others while experiencing Presence, Attractiveness, Uniqueness & Ability today?

How does that make me feel?
