How To Attract Business – Stop & Get Organized

8:45am – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

It is about 8:45am on Tuesday and writing this Blog entry is my way of Becoming Still.

I’m on the second day of my 60 day review of my; vision, projects and client management system, documents, e-mail, files, journals and notes/to do lists.

While I’m doing this I observing my ingrained behavior of wanting to pickup the phone and talk to someone versus my outcome of Becoming Still through the review which will lead me back to integrating all of the above into my Vision, Projects & Plan.

I’ve now completed the review of my; vision, projects and client management system, documents, e-mail, files, journals and notes/to do lists.

All of these items are listed in an Excel Spreadsheet.

My next step is to review my February 1, 2006 planning document for incompletions.

I’ll be back.

9:05am – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

February 1, 2006 planning document review for incompletions – done.

As I’m doing this, it feels like I’m emptying my mind. It reminds me of my younger years when I used to carry all of those good ideas in my head. Sometimes I would get so full that I would feel like my mind was going to explode. Little did I know that this was resulting from my ego mind’s addiction to thought.

Thank goodness I found my first and only worthwhile time management course and system from Priority Management which is still in business today.

I can remember it now back in 1979 when the Project Manager of my number one client said “You need to get your sh*t together” and refered me to Priority Management and I still use their principals today. I made it a habit of going back to Priority Management’s 4 hour course on Time Management every year for at least six years so that I completely integrated it into my being.

🙂 The challenge. YOU must schedule time to plan.

That’s what I’m doing now.

I’ll be back.

9:45am – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

One interruption. I had to deal with a courier delivery.

I’m going through the prioritized list of to dos and re-prioritizing them into sub-categories and identify which projects they relate to.

It is kind of like buying a deck of cards and they are all in a specific suit and are all in numeric order. Most people’s planning system kind of looks like 52 Pick Up. After all of their information has been thrown up in the air day after day, they don’t seem to know where anything is and what their priorities are.

You are never as busy as your dysfunctional ego mind makes you think you are. Creating the space to review, reflect and plan unhooks me from my dysfunctional ego mind’s limiting beliefs of;

– I’m too busy
– I’ll never get it all done
– I don’t know where to start

The worst one is; I have no time to plan.

2pm – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

A definite feeling of certainly and peace has come over me which I’m really enjoying as a result of my 60 day review. At this stage I’m reminded of two questions;

– What can I delegate?
– What can I systemize?

At this point, I am no further ahead than when I left off a 10am.

I completed an excellent client call from 10 – 11:15am which I chose to do because the client really needed help and I’m receiving loads of appreciation at the same time.

Then I took an early lunch and then it was off to find a new chiropractor because you never know when you are going to need one. We found the one we were looking for. Then it was off to my new favorite store – the building supply store for the almost never ending list of gadgets, hangers and screws to get ready for this evening’s edition of “Simon’s Home Fix It Show”.

2:40pm – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

I break for prospective client in-bound calls.

RRSP Season is drawing to an end. The phone rang and a very qualified prospective client called to book an appointment with me whom I have been trying to reach for ages.

2:57pm – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

The late great Thomas Leonard founder of Coach University used to say “If you want to attract some business, clean up your office”.

Laura just walked in my office to tell me that she just booked another appointment with a very qualified prospect.

4:10pm – Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Now that Laura! Yet another interruption!

This is the absolute truth.

As I am reviewing my marketing notes acknowledging that we are working on speaking at Advocis events, Laura walks in and tells me that she just had a call from Doug Knight of Knight Financial Services in Kelowna. Doug is the Advocis Kelowna Chapter President in Kelowna and is asking us to speak at their event in April. !!!!!!!!!!!

We were refered by Alex Nicholson of Pro-Seminars. Thank you Alex. Thank you Stewart.

This next one takes the cake. The opportunity is to speak for 1 ?Ǭ? hours right after Jim Rogers of The Jim Rogers Group!

Oh what a day!

4:45pm

The review is complete. The next step is to give it a once over to ensure that all the actions relate back to the Vision and Projects. As Covey said “Begin with the end in mind”.

The next steps after that will be to;

– Hold The Vision
– Identify Significant Projects
– Prioritize
– Schedule
– Delegate
– Act
– Write Systems Wherever Possible While I Am Taking Action
– Schedule Time To Plan & Think
– Hold The Vision
– Identify Significant Projects
– Prioritize
– Schedule
– Delegate
– Act
– Write Systems Wherever Possible While I Am Taking Action
– Schedule Time To Plan & Think
– Hold the Vision –

In closing, what you and I have witnessed is Attraction in Action.

When I’m busy and on the verge of overwhelm with countless good ideas, I’m a human doing and there is no being.
