Heart Beat OK & The Perfect Workout

With a full practice of clients and speaking opportunities, this year is about creating balance so you will note my Blogs will be about both business and personal topics.

In my last Blog, I mentioned that I had purchased a Polar Heart Monitor as I was wondering about my heart rate on my 13km cycle that I do 3 – 4 times per week. I’m wondering because I know my heart rate is getting really high as I climb a very steep hill riding out of Rathtrevor Park on the final leg of the ride.

My heart beat turn out to be OK and the workout turned out to be the perfect workout and here is why.

Based on a scale that was provided with the heart monitor, my heart beat range for the workout is a low of 125 and a high of 165.

Here is an overview of the cycle;

• Heart Beat – 70 bpm – start
• Heart Beat – 120 bpm – 3 minutes – level paved road
• Heart Beat – 125 bpm – 1 minute – steep paved road
• Heart Beat – 135 bpm – 6 minutes – level paved road
• Heart Beat – 140 bpm – 8 minutes – irregular up and down park trails
• Heart Beat – 145 bpm – 14 minutes – level paved road
• Heart Beat – 150 bpm – 6 minutes – irregular up and down park trails
• Heart Beat – 162 bpm – 2 minutes – very steep park trail
• Heart Beat – 140 bpm – 6 minutes – level paved road
• Heart Beat – 120 bpm – 4 minutes – level paved road

The dreaded hill is in the perfect spot, near the end of the workout and enough time to cool down.

Upon reflection, I need another steep hill.
