Does Your Job Title Clearly Describe The Role … Or Does The Title Lead To A Hiring Mistake?

The Title of Marketing Assistant can mean so many things and sometimes it can lead to a hiring mistake.

Here is an excerpt from an e-mail that I recently sent to one of my clients that relates to helping the client create a successful hire using values and behaviours assessments.

The prime directive is “the role” that the person is going to fulfill versus the “job title”.

We are looking for an associate that has a higher individualistic value that can take direction, work unassisted to a degree, work on files, cross T’s and dot I’s, make decisions, bring files to another level and then ask for help when needed – not needing to be told what to do every step of the way. The crossing of T’s and dotting I’s isn’t akin to someone that has the behavioral style of someone that is purely a marketing assistant that has multiple conversations during the day that has lots of wheels spinning and is reprioritizing on the fly – with some things falling through the cracks.
