Business Plan Myths

  • All business plans are in writing.
  • They must be long to be good.
  • Their primary purpose is to obtain financing.
  • It’s easier for others to write business plans.
  • You can and should do it by yourself.
  • It takes six months, a significant amount of executive and staff’s time, and expensive consultants.
  • If completed, it will sit unused on a bookshelf.
  • My practice is too small; business plans are for much bigger organizations.
  • I know where I am taking my business; I do not need a written business plan.
  • I can just pay for a consultant to write the plan for me; that will be good enough.
