15 Content Ideas for Financial Advisors on Social Media

content ideas for financial advisors

The importance of social media goes far beyond your “follower” count. This is simply a vanity metric that shouldn’t discourage you from posting valuable content.

If only four people like your post, you may feel that it wasn’t good enough or you wasted your time. Think of it this way – if four people called you today or showed up at your front door to tell you they liked your work, would that make a difference?

When a prospect is researching who to trust with their most significant investment (their finances), they aren’t simply looking at your Google Reviews. In fact, 81% of people research brands on Instagram.

With millions of active users on various social platforms, your potential client pool has suddenly expanded. Even more so if you’re a virtual financial advisor.

Here are some content ideas you can use as a foundation for building your plan to attract the ideal client for your business.

LinkedIn Content Ideas

1.   Promote your Firm’s Webinars or Events

The next time your firm has an in-person event or webinar, you can use a free tool like Canva to create an attention-grabbing graphic and utilize the caption for the details. Don’t forget to include any signup links! If you’d like to track your links’ success, you can use a shortener like Bit.ly to report those numbers.

2.   Share Timely Content

Take 5-15 minutes every morning or even once a week to research updates in your industry that you can share. It doesn’t have to be an original post – even sharing from a credible source can give your connections the impression that you have the authority and knowledge in the industry they can depend on.

3.   Share Statistics or Infographics that Showcase Financial Planning Benefits

Not a lot of people love math. You can write a caption breaking down the numbers, but often this will get lost in translation, and people may give up trying to read a big chunk of text to make sense of it. Sharing a statistic that explains it all or an easy-to-understand infographic about the importance of saving for your child’s education from the day they’re born may hit home. Compound interest is a beautiful thing, and showcasing this through an infographic can get people thinking.

4.   Post Market Updates

Showcase your credibility by posting market updates, whether that be in a quick casual video format, through infographics, or sharing from a well-known source in your industry.

5.   Share Content from Credible Sources

Sharing content is the best way to save yourself time, but remember to put your own spin on it. Simply sharing someone’s content won’t showcase your personality. Give an opinion on the topic as well, and don’t blindly post something without reading into it first. You can get inspired from the Top 100 Financial Blog Advisor Blogs and Websites. 6. Promote an Offer and Ask for Opinions

Are you offering a new service to your clients or perhaps reminding them about a few ways they can work with you? Promote that on Facebook and ask for opinions on what people would like to see or find beneficial. This could even be about your next webinar topic!

7. Share What you Learn

The next time you watch, read, or hear something that inspires you in your industry, share what you learn! You can do this by posting a Facebook Story, sharing a quick video that you took in your office, or even a graphic with the book’s title or where you learned it if people are interested in learning more.

8. Post your Blogs

If you’re taking the time to write your blogs, you have to promote them! Take a small, valuable takeaway from your blog that will have people wanting more. You can do this by sharing a graphic to grab their attention, so they’re intrigued enough to read the caption.

9. Share your WHY

If people trust you and like you, they’re more likely to work with you. Why did you become a financial advisor? Break it down into a series of posts, but there’s one key thing you have to keep in mind. Craft your messaging about your why to showcase the problem you solve. Social media shouldn’t be a posterboard for how great you are. It should be a communication tool to connect with your audience. Trust us, if you follow this method, how awesome you are will shine through.

10. Share a Testimonial

What’s better than telling people how you can help them? Other people raving about the results, the way you work or what you’ve helped them accomplish. Creating a graphic to go along with it is better than just sharing a caption in this visual age. If you have permission, be sure to share their name and a photo of them on the testimonial. This adds credibility and shows it came from a real person!

11. Showcase your Lifestyle and Personality

Instagram is a great place to connect with people you know and stumble upon people you don’t. You want to build a relationship, human to human. Don’t showcase what you had for breakfast every day, but do promote your lifestyle and personality. This could be anything from the ski trip you went on that you could afford due to a savings plan in place or just the adorable Halloween costume your dog wore. Instagram doesn’t have to be all business, all the time.

12. Use Video to Connect with Followers

If you’re trying to connect with people you don’t typically see in person; video is the best way to do this. Whether it’s telling a quick story in a post, sharing an Instagram Story about what is on the agenda that day, or telling a client’s success story. A great example of a trend with Entrepreneurs in 2021 is “the big 3”. Every day, go online and post your “big 3” tasks for the day as a video in your stories. It disappears after 24 hours and gives people a glimpse into your day-to-day.

13. Host a Contest

Hosting a contest shouldn’t be done until you have some followers that are likely to promote it and a prize worth giving. Doing the “like, follow, comment and share” process is the best way to gain engagement. Make sure you share the winner so followers will be inclined to enter again if you have one in the future instead of leaving them with suspicion it could be fake.

14. Connect with your Community

Do you support a charitable organization in your community? Share what you believe in by promoting local events and tagging those owners/organizations in the posts. They’re likely to share it too! A great example of this could be sharing a photo of you delivering a box of canned food to a local shelter and asking followers if they’d like to drop any off at your office that you can include in the next batch.

15. Tell a Story

Storytelling is the best method to connect with others online. People don’t want to simply hear that investing is the best way to set yourself up for financial success. Create thought-provoking scenarios and do the math for people. Tell the story about the lifestyle they can achieve and the roadmap to get there.

Creating content online can be challenging when you feel like you’ve lost your purpose. You’re good at your job, but you’re starting to forget your why and could be feeling directionless. Leading Advisor helps both struggling and successful financial advisors eliminate stress, create more time and increase productivity.
