Poverty Of The Heart, Mind And Spirit Stays In Poverty – Compassion Ecuador Travelogue #8

RestroomsAn easier day for us today as we are taking a break from church school visits. We are having breakfast at the hotel with university students sponsored by Compassion’s Leadership Development Program followed by a sightseeing tour of Old Quito this afternoon.

This photo shows old his and hers toilets at yesterdays church school visit. Notice the absence of running water as you have to bale/self flush. Compassion’s work includes building classrooms along with the restrooms, and new classrooms along with the restrooms opened the day of our arrival. Ninety five percent of the Ecuadorian population is either in poverty or extreme poverty. Poverty of the heart, mind and spirit stays in poverty due to the lack of sanitary infrastructure. These conditions cause children and families to suffer illness like parasites, as well as intestinal , respiratory, skin and urinary tract infections making it nearly impossible to sustain a vision without despair.
