Apathy Or Membership? What Is Your NAIFA State Board’s Biggest Problem?

Over the last few weeks I’ve spoken to a quite a number of NAIFA State Board Leaders about delivering a LIVE NAIFA Membership Workshop for their NAIFA State Board Members.

During our conversation, I ask NAIFA State Board Leaders: what are the biggest roadblocks that they want to eliminate in their association?

The number one answer is Apathy: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.

That is why I deal with Apathy first thing in the LIVE NAIFA Membership Workshop.

How?

Respectfully, people don’t know what they want and they are always wanting and they believe that the next want is going to fulfill them.

Even though wants may be fulfilled through the next assistant, association position, case, car, commission, computer, degree/designation, fitness milestone, friend, hobby, holiday, house, marriage, plan, smart phone, social media post, suit or watch, people feel like there is something missing and they lose interest in what they want over time.

I believe the reason people are always wanting is because people don’t know what their values are. If one does not know what their values are, they will be unfulfilled and always wanting.

Values are the foundation of one’s participation in their association, business and personal life and these values are interchangeable.

Interchangeable meaning that when one discovers, demonstrates and lives their values, their values resonate and build through their association, business and personal life.

That is why the LIVE NAIFA Membership Workshop includes a process to help Board Members discover their core values.

How?

Participants Shout Out answers to:

  • Why are you a NAIFA member?
  • What does being a NAIFA member give you?
  • Why are you in Business?
  • What does being in Business give you?

Through this experience, Participants realize that their answers are transparent to both their association, business and personal life.

Apathy or Membership

Participants are then asked to Shout Out answers to the following questions to further understand the above realization.

  • What are the three biggest improvements the members want to make in their business?
  • What are the three biggest roadblocks the members want to eliminate in their business?
  • What are the three biggest improvements that NAIFA Members want to make in their association?
  • What are the three biggest roadblocks that NAIFA members want to eliminate in their association?

Participants are then asked to partner up and tell a story about a time when they were challenged in business or life and about what they did whatever it took to create a successful outcome.

This process helps Participants discover their PASSION based on core values, feelings and beliefs which again are transferable to their association, business and personal life.

Participants are then asked to write out their story and with the use of handout / tables, identify, document and integrate their core values, feelings and beliefs into a goal setting / affirmation handout assignment.

This process helps to integrate their core values, feelings and beliefs into a goal setting / affirmation for long lasting sustainable value.

This sets the stage for the delivery and roll playing of:

  • NAIFA Membership Plan
  • NAIFA Membership Needs Analysis / Enrollment Script
  • NAIFA Membership Objections

Participants grow to understand that:

  • 10% of Association Membership, Business and Life is about How & What to do
  • 90% of Association Membership, Business and Life is about WHY and if one doesn’t get the WHY right they might get it all wrong.
