Making A Difference For One Or Two Starfish In London, ON

It’s Thursday afternoon and I am finally clear of all client and prospect conversations and I have Thursday – Tuesday free from calls and I’ll have some business reflective time and free time.

As I contemplate flying to London, ON on Sunday, November 18th in order to speak at Pro-Seminars in London, ON at 8am ET, I am reminded that I am looking for one or two starfish in London, ON.

Speaking takes a considerable amount of time and energy that includes getting up at 5:45am PT on Sunday morning to catch a flight from Comox, BC at 7:40am via Calgary, AB arriving in London, ON at 6pm ET. I’ll have dinner and do my best to fall asleep to adjust to eastern time so that I can get up at 5am ET in advance of speaking at 8am on Monday, November 19th.

Presenting public speaking isn’t about my story about what it takes to deliver the speaking; it is more likened to The Starfish Story.

The Starfish Story
Original Story by: Loren Eisley

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.

The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?

You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.

Then, smiling at the man, he said…” I made a difference for that one.”
