Keeping The Hiring Egg Off Your Face & Mine

I received the following e-mail from a client after they received the e-mail that is contained in An Assessment & A Follow Up E-Mail Like This Will Prevent Your Next Hiring Disaster blog.

Please find the e-mail along with my reply.

Dear Simon,

Thanks for your feedback. The candidate said that they would consider sales. Do you think they would have some potential there?

Joe Advisor

Dear Joe Advisor,

I would not hire this candidate for any reason due to the reasons that I have stated.

I recommend placing the Ad that we have offered and then assessing the top three candidates and hiring the best.

Hiring this candidate is like going on a first date and then getting married.

I don’t believe this candidate will be able to sell; they may convince you they can, then they will be in your midst, trying to sell, not creating results, doing favors for you, then you feel obligated to start paying a salary to a person that is not suited to the job.

I suppose the next step is you would ask me to help you with the problems that you are having which brings me back to – why make the mistake in the first place?

My message is coming from the place of me being asked the same kind of question by other advisors over the past 15 years, with me saying maybe it might work on a few occasions – in 3 – 6 months, both the advisor and I have egg on our faces so I have learned to say that there is no maybe.

Thank you for listening to this tough love.

Simon
