There is a frenzy in the air – the air is all a buzz – people are jubilant – talking loudly – having parties before noon – walking around in their colorful parkas –
What is the fever?
I’m in the middle of football country and I am seeing dedicated fans wearing the team colors of the Edmonton Eskimos, the Calgary Stampeders, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Why the fever and the team colors? For those of you who are not Canadian it is the Grey Cup this Sunday in Winnipeg and I’m right in the middle of it.
At the same time, I feel sadness in the air as I heard one reveler exclaim “None of our teams are in it!” Meaning the Grey Cup is being played by the BC Lions and the Montreal Alouettes.
I feel for them. It does not seem right for all of their teams, the prairie true grit teams of the Edmonton Eskimos, the Calgary Stampeders, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers all play in outside stadiums where real men play football in – 25 C.
Grrrrr! I’m getting the fever!
