Laura and I visited to Ecuador November 22 – 30, 2013 to meet Andrea and Michael, the children that we sponsor through Compassion. Based on the feedback that we received from our Facebook friends, I’m going to be sharing my travelogue and pictures via my blog over the coming weeks. We hope that you enjoy them.
In my day I sometimes thought of St. Mary’s Catholic School as prison. In contrast, these walls and soccer pitch at our Monday, November 25th’s Compassion funded church school represent sanctuary from a very rough area of Ibarra, Ecuador where the #1 economic drivers are contract shootings, drugs and prostitution. I didn’t know it at the time but what I learned and have come to re-discover is that St. Mary’s continues to keep me out of hell. This church school looks after the cognitive, health, social and spiritual welfare of 360 children. There are more than 1000 more on the street, some of whom are orphans.
