Every once in a while a client says to me “I want to do what you do”.
Reflecting on the reality that I have been doing this type of work for the best part of 20 years with many of them as a labor of love while I learn the trade so to speak, along with my client having anywhere from 10 to 20 years into their financial advisor business I ask them “do they have another 10 to 20 years to learn an entirely new business?”
Do they have another 10 to 20 years to learn and entirely new business that can be both rewarding and unforgiving? The reason that I say this is there is an expression in my business; “a client will bring you something that you have already dealt with in either your business or personal lives, something you are currently dealing with or something that you have never dealt with”. That is why it is unforgiving because if you dare to walk into the path of a client where you have little or no experience the situation will eat you alive.
I wrote an article back in 1996 which talked about the notion of a Fulfillment Planner TM which is both a Financial Advisor and a Coach.
What I am saying to my clients that “want to do what I do” is that you be a demonstration by example of how to fulfill both your own life and the lives of the people and clients that you come into contact with through your own practice of fulfillment and the fulfillment of your client’s financial fulfillment.
Here is the article that I wrote in 1996.
