Catching Up On Calm

Leading Advisor - Catching Up On Calm

It’s Tuesday, August 30th and I’m on day 1 of 3 consecutive Buffer Days and writing a blog post catch up since a blogging break on July 25th.

This blog is a catch up / mash up of some of the things that are on my mind and my insights may be of value to you.

I took a blogging break to calm my mind, as deep values based uninterrupted conscious thought was required to complete on accounting, marketing, product, sales and tradeshow projects. I wanted to be looking forward from Labor Day rather than back at a list of incompletions that would have been a distraction to our vision going forward. Along the way, I’ve added value to the clients that we serve and have helped NAIFA pioneer some revolutionary ideas for their new NAIFA Membership Sales System. Truth is I am still catching up, and I can calmly see the finish line.

I have gone back to blocking out Buffer Days versus The One Thing methodology, and when I can, a series of Buffer Days in a row so that I can get into deep values based uninterrupted conscious thought when working on creative projects.

What a year! Brexit, the DOL and an Election. There has not been a year in memory where there has been so much change going on and with this much change going on, calm is required – Simon! As in Simon; remember the expression “teach what you need to learn the most”.

What is easier to calm or change; your mind or the world?

In the next few months, there is going to be a lot more change within the world. With change, fear gets whipped up to the boiling point and a lot of calm will be required.

What are your practices to calm or change your mind? Our practices are prayer, meditation, reading, affirmation, conscious drinking & eating, walking and yoga. Sounds boring to some I am sure, but the alternative is stress.

All of the above practices contribute to deep values based uninterrupted conscious thought from the heart rather than just the mind. There is an infinite amount of heart based, deep values based uninterrupted conscious thought whereas the mind, the amygdala in particular, doesn’t believe there is enough which sets up constant and never ending judgment and fear. Judgment and fear interferes with truths like; we have been given everything we require to succeed and no one can take that away from us. Nothing in life has any meaning except the meaning you give it, and the meaning of everything changes from a calm state of mind.

Heart based, deep values based uninterrupted conscious thought is the state of heart and mind that we are all born with. What I mean by values are; faith, sense, teaching, understanding and wisdom. The one true original values based state of heart and mind is much different that the fragmented mind, the amygdala that is addicted to insatiable unmet needs of approval, control, perfection, power, safety and worthiness. These unsustainable unmet needs destroy one’s ability to plan, focus, manage time, delegate and more. When you are liberated from unmet needs you will be able to be value, direct yourself to adding value and you will receive value in kind. From this place one learns that having value rests on giving value.

Laura & I and our Leading Advisor Inc. Team of Amie, Deanne, Frank, Kim, Kelly, Patricia, Susan, Tammy and Tracy wish you extraordinary success as we approach the Labor Day Weekend and beyond.

PS – On a personal note, Laura and I have had a great summer on Vancouver Island taking time of June, July and August that included cycling, hiking, kayaking and yoga along with art & music festivals, dinners with friends, farmers markets and theatre.
