“If this fog gets any thicker we will have to turn on the GPS” I exclaimed to Laura at 5:55pm PT on Wednesday evening as we were traveling to Comox, BC for me to catch a 7pm flight to Calgary. “Hey, this doesn’t look familiar, I’ve never seen that exit before” said Laura as we both realized that we had missed the exit to Comox as we were lost in conversation and fog. We were on our way to Campbell River and had to make up some time and the 10km by missing the exit, luckily the flight arrive late.
Part of the reason that we had missed our exit was we were talking about how happy we were that there is a direct flight from Comox, BC to Trail, BC for when I will be speaking to the Advocis, S.E. BC Chapter on April 2nd. I’ll fly out in the morning, speak and catch an afternoon flight home.
GPS – Goal Prioritize Schedule comes to mind as I am finding myself caught up in a bit of whirlwind coming strong out of the gate for 2009 right after our planning session with loads of goals and to dos from a massive list.
The whirlwind is starting to turn into overwhelm from plugging away at the goals and to do list between client conversations, travelling and speaking.
The GPS – Goal Prioritize Schedule acronym is my way of reminding me to set my goals, prioritize my goals or to dos, estimate the time that I am going to contribute to each goal or to do and then schedule the goal or to do into my time management system.
Failing to take this action fragments my ability to clearly focus as I begin to try to work on everything at once. This also fragments my ability to attract the outcome for the goal that I am looking for.
The to do list becomes a TOrnaDO of the mind without the GPS – Goal Prioritize Schedule.
