Explain Why LinkedIn Or For That Matter Any Other Social Media Site

No matter how hard I try, they seem to pull me back in.

Like you, I can’t seem to get away from social media; there is an expert under every rock.

My goal from July 1 to August 15 is to concentrate my energy and focus on developing products and writing about as you invest more time and energy into reading the posts of your associates, clients and friends you will start to notice they will be fitting into a niche or two or three and then you can start to niche concentrate your insights ( posts ) and be start to be seen as a recognized expert in a niche or two or three … don’t worry about the one or two or three … niches, the one niche that you are meant to work in will become obvious – financial advisor practice management.

At the same time, if my client asks a question, it is my job to answer so here is the question from a client and here are my current thoughts.

Social media isn’t about whether or not you should be participating in LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter, what some call Social Media 2.0.

Social media is about finding your voice and social media is about getting; “be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind, don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind” – Dr. Seuss and having the following which some call Social Media 1.0

  • Values, vision, purpose and mission – social media is more to do with forget about the me, it is all about those that you serve and if you are not clear on your values, vision, mission and purpose you will run out of energy on the social media climb because it is going to be a long one
  • Bio
  • Brand
  • Unique Selling Proposition
  • Tagline
  • Testimonials
  • Website
  • E-Newsletter
  • Blog

When you have the above pieces in place, then you will have a voice as a result of the writing that you have done to move onto the next step with Social Media 2.0 because social media is about understanding that social media is a social media tool and not a sales and marketing tool.

Once you have completed the writing to produce the above noted points, then you can use them to create your Social Media Profile on LinkedIn or Twitter or FaceBook.

Then you can start connecting with your associates, clients and friends to find out what they are interested in.

As you invest some time and energy in this, then you will start to have some of your own insights and then you can start to participate in conversations and they will get that “by the way, my day job is that of a financial or investment advisor”.

As you invest more time and energy into reading the posts of your associates, clients and friends you will start to notice they will be fitting into a niche or two or three and then you can start to niche concentrate your insights ( posts ) and start to be seen as a recognized expert in a niche or two or three … don’t worry about the one or two or three niches, the one niche that you are meant to work in will become obvious.

Success is a few simple blogs, comments, posts or tweets practiced every single day and these will build into articles, books, e-newsletters and speaking presentations that will make you the recognized expert in the niches that you serve.
