Peaks And Valleys

Our lives are filled with business and personal peaks and valleys.

Laura and I are both in a personal valley just now as both of our mothers have been in and out of the hospital over the past few weeks … all is well and we are thankful that Helen and Irene are being well taken care of via one of the best medical systems in the world.

Sadness comes and goes and it is sometimes hard to find the joy in the incredible business success that we are experiencing.

Sometimes we must find a healthy plateau on the way to the peak of our vision while we are slogging it out in the valley on the way to our vision.

A plateau is where we create healthy rest and neutral time where we feel neither high nor low and take stock and think about what to do next.

There are many that lose sight of their vision and create unhealthy plateaus and ways to numb out the pain of their journey using alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, porn, sex, TV, video games and the list goes on and on.

Healthy plateaus can include alone time, doing nothing, exercise, journaling, massage, taking a nap, reading, rest, stretching, therapeutic massage, walks in nature or yoga.

Laura and I took a break at Poet’s Cove on South Pender Island over the weekend with our good friends Cheryl and Dave and experienced most of the healthy plateaus over the weekend and we stopped in to say hello to Helen on the way in and out.

To quote Spencer Johnson’s Peaks And Valleys, “I’ll tell you about Peaks and Valleys'” the old man had said, “one the same condition my friend asked me – that is, if you find it useful, you’ll see if you can find a way to share it with others.”

Peaks And Valleys is a must read in this new economy and a great companion to Seth Godin’s book The Dip.

I’m home for a Buffer Day on Monday and then I’m on the road again on Tuesday to speak at Pro-Seminars in Edmonton on Wednesday and Saskatoon on Thursday and I’m flying home on Thursday and I’ll have One On One Tele-Coaching calls in between.

My Buffer Day is allowing me to Empty My Head to prioritize and schedule the to-dos and schedule time blocks to refocus on our big vision which follows from bottom to top.
