Are You Hiring Up Or Dragging Your Self & Your Hire Down?

The following is an excerpt from a coaching call follow up email.

I want to talk with you about Hiring Up versus Hiring Down.

You know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Is the definition of insanity the motivation behind repeating behaviours with working with certain team members?

What is the motivation to help each team member?

Does the team member have the values and behaviors, and strength on paper to be a financial advisor that prospects and closes their own business?

Does the team member have the values and behaviors, and strength on paper to be a financial advisor to work with your C clients, enabling you to create the spaciousness to work with your A clients?

Getting back to the definition of insanity and expecting a different result.

I believe that what you do with working with certain team members parallels what goes on in the coaching business.

What is going on in the coaching business?

Most coaches require an extraordinary amount of emotional, psychological, and spiritual work to do what they do, to clear out the mistakes in perception of the amygdala. The amygdala wants to stay in control, and so rather than going out and getting the emotional, psychological, and spiritual help that the coach needs, the amygdala thinks it’s a great idea just get out there and start helping others when the coach just simply doesn’t have the depth.

So the coach goes to work with clients and runs into situations that they have already dealt with, are currently dealing with, or have never dealt with. What they have never dealt with will either propel them to get the emotional, psychological and spiritual help they require to stay in the business or get out of the business.

Whether the coach gets their emotional, psychological and spiritual work done before they get into the business or as a result of going deep with their clients, in the long run they will eventually take the necessary actions emotionally, psychologically and spiritually to be able to return to a state of grace.

But medicating and diverting the work that they need to do emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually when working with others, or instead trying to heal others rather than healing themselves, is usually the long and wrong way around.

There is an expression; life is about messages. If you get the message, you get attainment, and you grow. If you don’t get the message, you create a problem. If you don’t fix the problem, then you create a crisis. Then you get the message.

What I am sharing with you here is to point something out gracefully.

I believe that the best route for you economically and time wise if you must help certain team members that do not have the values and behaviors, is to train them to support you working with your C clients so that you can get out there and work with more of your A clients.

The long and the wrong way around is pouring an enormous amount of energy and time into a team member that does not have values and behaviors, the strength on paper, and at the end of the day, they are not going to be able to make it as an advisor that can prospect and close their own business and the sad part about it is that you both fail.

Unfortunately, the amygdala wins.
